WELCOME TO THE INSIDE TRACK

SINGAPORE Singapore Race Briefing

Hello Lionel

Hello and welcome to another Inside Track, brought to you by Shell. Monza saw an almost perfect result for Scuderia Ferrari. A win for Fernando Alonso and the third place podium spot for Felipe Massa saw the Tifosi erupt with celebration on the grid of the famous Italian track. Two weeks later and Formula One moves east to the Marina Bay Street Circuit, for the Singapore Grand Prix.

The cars will drive anti-clockwise around the circuit taking in 23 corners per lap over 61 laps so the teams will set up quite similarly to Monaco. Even with the heavy braking zones, the average speed here is 110mph, so the teams are likely to run a high downforce setting to make sure they are using drag to slow the cars into the low-speed corners. As the majority of the track is used throughout the rest of the year as city streets, drivers have to adapt to two different types of asphalt – the slippery road section and the high-grip race bitumen, supplied by Shell Bitumen.

Like most street races, gaining a good grid position is vital for success on Sunday. Scuderia Ferrari uses Shell V-Power race fuel to carefully engine balance performance and efficiency giving optimum performance for qualifying and consistent delivery throughout the race. Although Singapore isn’t the fastest track on the calendar, with a top speed of 190 mph, the engines are running at 100% for over 65% of the lap, making Shell Helix Ultra lubricant vital in reducing friction in the engine.

Finally, this instalment of Inside Track brings with it another exclusive podcast. Lisa Lilley, Shell Technology Manager for Ferrari, gives her thoughts on the race and explains some of the challenges which Shell will face as technical partners of Scuderia Ferrari.

Hope you enjoy the race!
