PANASONIC TOYOTA RANCING in SPA

BRIDGESTONE in SPA
Hirohide Hamashima - Bridgestone, Director of Motorsport Tyre Development, said:What are the points of interest at Spa?"Spa is extremely challenging for drivers and for tyre engineers too. The layout is the longest of the year and it has a lot of complexity, with the added challenge of significant gradient changes. It is a high speed circuit, and one with particularly high loads on the tyres because of the high levels of downforce used. Added to this, the weather in Belgium is often variable and we have seen rain a number of times previously, so Spa is likely to give everyone a lot of hard work. We have changed the tyre allocation a step harder for this season as last year we had issues with heat durability, which should be less of a problem with the harder compounds."

Race Briefing Belgium
It’s Ian Albiston (Shell Formula One Project Manager) here. Spa-Francorchamps circuit in Belgium is one of the most historic tracks on the Formula One calendar and also one of the most unpredictable and exciting of the year, where rain often falls on one side of the circuit and the sun shines on the other!
Set in the hills outside Liège, this remote circuit is a pilgrimage for true Formula One fans from around the world. The Spa circuit is well-known for having a number of sharp hairpins and high-speed flowing turns, as the cars wind their way around the tree-lined track. One of the hilliest circuits on the calendar, the G-Force generated at corners such as Fagnes or Radillon will peak at 3.2. As a result of these extreme conditions and loadings put on the cars, the engines will suffer from a huge range of stresses.
